  • Description:
My neighbors and I would like to report about the main street in Cooraclare Village. Instead of creating a petition we decided to contact Clare County Council to see if some road repairs or traffic calming works can be carried out from the Grotto at the top of the street to the bridge at the opposite end of the village. The road tarmac has not been done for well over 20 years. At the creamery junction the road is sinking down due to leaks and a stream running directly under it. As I'm sure you aware, Cooraclare is a very busy village traffic wise due to it being located between Kilrush & Milltown Malbay along with being a route from the Killimer ferry to the Cliffs of Mother. The left hand side footpath from what knowns as the 'Pigs Elbow Bend' is also covered in moss and there has been several falls there by elderly people. There is also serious grass and muck hazard at along the wall at the bridge (due to no footpath). Also the worst hazard off all is the speed of the cars through the village. Just before Xmas an individual drove a high speed through the village and lost control into the Pigs Elbow bend and crashed into three houses (if you send a council representative they will see the damage to the houses and the luck the driver had that no one was killed at the bend') Is it possible that if there is no funding for tarmac or footpath that there could at least be some money for low cost Traffic Calming?
